Fortunately, this time it was a good bit less water before I realised what I'd done. Also, I knew exactly how to take the grinder apart to clean and dry everything, and recently acquired a mini vacuum that helped.

I haven't put it back together yet. Everything is sitting on the heated top of the machine so I can be sure it's all completely dry when I reassemble.

I've been eyeing up the Baratza Encore ESP for a while. Now I think the best argument for the splurge is that I won't end up pouring water into a separate grinder no matter how sleepy, distracted or just plain stupid I am… right?! 🫠🫣😬

It’s a Breville. It’s only natural to want to kill it and get a real espresso machine. Don’t blame yourself.

I mean, we do keep on telling folks that it’s better to have a separate grinder and brewer….

Integrated grinders suck anyway. You wouldn’t be losing much if you killed it.

You know you need a coffee when you fail to make one!

I hope you managed to wake up eventually!

  5. I started pulling a shot without a cup the other day. I caught it and got a cup under there before the water made it through the puck but I didn’t zero the scale in time so I had to eyeball the shot

That’s is my first espresso rule, never ever combine the grinder with the espresso machine.

You’ve unlocked a new reason not to buy combo units. It was a long list already.

    R/espresso

I think you need to label your grinder, “GRINDER, NO WATER”

Maybe you should have a cup of coffee before….oh never mind!

Make the coffee before hitting the vape!

Pretty sure the Encore ESP is going to be basically identical to the grinder in your Express. Breville/Sage owns Baratza.

Never service your machine until after you’ve had a couple cups of coffee.

Every time I go to refill the reservoir and see that warning label I think to myself, “now who is that for?” And today I suppose I have my answer.

Don’t make espresso until you’ve had an espresso

The other day, I opened my blind shaker over the tamp station. Without portafilter there. ‘Twas a mess.

I’m always amazed that people can get out of bed bleary eyed and go through all the precision steps with burny equipment to make espresso their first caffeine of the day without it ending in disaster.

  18. Did that with my Ode 2. Sometimes you need coffee before you can make coffee.

  19. Secret genius? Add some beans and ice… You’ll have yourself a smoothie!
